Baby rescued from Huruma building leaves hospital

A baby who was rescued four days after a building collapsed in Huruma estate in Nairobi has been discharged from hospital and reunited with her father.

Baby Dealeryn Saisi Wasike, the six-month old baby from the collapsed building, was discharged from Kenyatta National Hospital on Saturday morning.

The baby has been at the hospital for the past two weeks while receiving treatment.

According to the Designated Incident Commander at Kenyatta National Hospital, Pius Masai, the baby Dealeryn is in good health.

“This baby was discharged from Kenyatta National Hospital following the disaster of the building collapse. She has been undergoing treatment,” Masai said.

Mr Masia further said that the hospital bill, amounting to Sh30,000, had been settled by Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko. Senator Sonko also provided transport for the baby and her father, Mr Ralson Saisi Wasike, to their home.

DEMOLITION EXERCISE

Mr Masai explained that baby Dealeryn had no major injuries and has been fully treated.

“She did not have any fractures apart from some bruises. The doctors have tested and discharged her,” he said.

Mr Wasike expressed his joy at being formally united with his daughter saying that his next move will be to find accommodation to enable them start a new life.

“I am filled with great joy because my daughter has been out of my arms for a long time. There are those people who never made it and I want to thank God for helping my daughter. She is here and I am very happy,” Mr Wasilke said.

The child will however have to live without her mother, who was found dead in the rabble.

Meanwhile, the Nairobi County government will proceed with the demolition of 6 buildings next to the one that collapse when the 7-day grace period elapses on Tuesday.

According to a statement circulated by County Executive Committee (CEC) lands on Saturday, an elaborate demolition plan will be shared on Tuesday.
