Bahati alleges threats to relinquish his political bid

Singer Kelvin Kioko, popularly known as Bahati, has vowed not to step down as a candidate for the Mathare parliamentary seat.

The Adhiambo hitmaker insists he’s been asked to relinquish his nomination certificate by party leaders whom he did not name.

“The past 24 hours have been one of the hardest times of my life. I was called to a meeting and asked to bring back the certificate,” he claimed.

The popular musician has asked President Uhuru Kenyatta and Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga to intervene.

“I am being asked to step down for a sitting MP because he feels threatened by the competition I’m offering. I have said that will not happen because this certificate is not only for Bahati, it represents the  youth, it is a sign of hope.”

“I humbly request our two leaders to intervene because I’m confident of winning the election in August.”

He stopped short of saying he could consider vying as an independent candidate.

“I have to be on the ballot. I am not turning back.”

Earlier, the aspiring politician was reduced to tears after claiming he had been shortchanged by party officials.
