Brace yourself: List of areas that will be affected by power blackout


A significant power outage is set to hit multiple regions across Kenya, including Nairobi, on Thursday, August 17, 2023, according to an announcement from the Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC).

In an official statement viewed by Nairobi News, KPLC stated that the upcoming power disruptions are expected due to routine maintenance.

Nairobi County leads the list of affected areas, with Hill View Estate being among the localities to experience the blackout. Specific segments to be impacted include Lower Kabete Road, Hill View Estate, portions of Lake View Estate, and neighboring customers.

In Kiambu County, regions such as Kisii Estate and Gachagi will also encounter power interruptions. Notable locations in the list now encompass Makongeni, Poly Sack, segments of Umoja Keblest, Cereals Board, Shell Petrol Station Capwell, BAT, and their nearby customers.

Turning to Machakos County, the blackout is set to affect a range of areas including Rhombus, Bluestone, Suraya, National Concrete, Veevee, Aristocrats, Kirinyaga, Mugoya, Garuda, Greatwall Gardens Phase 3, St. Franciscan Sisters, Whistling, Harvest International, Waridi, Pine City, Nova Pioneer School, Seyani Brothers, among others. Locations like Alrabia, Riverpark Estate, and Graceland Estate, as well as adjacent customers, will also experience the power disruption.

The blackout’s scope extends to Athi, encompassing places like Kivani, Kathome, and Serena Park.

Nakuru County is listed among the affected regions, with Ngata and Kapkures among the specific areas set to encounter the power blackout. Additional areas within Nakuru County such as Kiboron, Roret, Oglilei, Lord Egerton Castle, Cherrynam Hotel, Lokorio, Kabasis, Mogoon, Kapkures, Lalwet, Kokoto Quarry, Jesus is Lord, Nyoro Farm, Natu, Lower Piave, and their adjacent customers will also be impacted.

Nandi County, including locales like Charbarbar, St. Joseph Cheptirir, Kapdiidii, Samoo, Tilalwa, Kipchabo Factory, Talai, and adjacent customers, is also on the list for the power disruption.

Other affected areas encompass Menyinkwa and Itibo in Kisii County, Junction Villa, Warazo Jet, Huhoini, Mapema Market, Kimahuri Market, Mbao Saw Mill, Karandi, Kambaru Forest, and adjacent customers in Nyeri County, and Spenza Millers, Gatuto Market, Kiaga Market, Abai Lodge, GP Kagio, Kagio, and their adjacent customers in Kirinyaga County.

Finally, the blackout will extend to Mombasa County, impacting Kibarani Miracle Park, Mitchel Courts, Uganda Properties, Bahati, Changamwe Estate, Total Petrol Station, and their adjacent customers.

The scheduled power interruption is part of regular maintenance efforts by KPLC to ensure the reliability and safety of the power supply system.
