Cheer up guys, the big discount season is here


Christmas has come early for Nairobi residents as retailers and service providers woo customers with discounts. From household items to phones, electrical gadgets, furniture and car accessories, there’s a bargain for everyone.

Stalls in Nairobi are luring customers with great offers — up to 40 per cent discounts on selected clothing.

A walk through Moi and Tom Mboya Avenues reveals that these stall owners are stopping at nothing to get clients.

“I have promoted my products online through social media and I am offering 20 per cent discount to all my clients till December 31,” said Grace Muthoni, a stall owner at The One Shopping Complex on Moi Avenue.

Fifty goats 

Waridi Fashions, which specialises in bridal clothing, has a bargain for those tying the knot. A wedding dress that previously cost Sh70,000 is up for grabs at Sh45,000.

Supermarkets have raised the stakes a notch higher, combining offers for the Kenya @50 festivities with Christmas prizes.

At Naivas, it’s 50 goats for 50 women who spend at least Sh1,000 at the chain store. Uchumi has a 10 per cent discount on selected goods for Jamhuri Day.

Nakumatt has cut prices for its blue label products, mostly water, flour, cooking fat and other perishables.

Last year, Tuskys ran a 60 per cent discount campaign on selected items, including a live goat.

Nakumatt had Nakumatt Millionaires’ Christmas promotion where the winner walked away with a Sh1 million shopping voucher.

Tyre retailer AutoXpress has 30 per cent discount on all KYB shock absorbers and coil springs. Monroe, on the other hand, has cut prices for its shocks up to December 23.

TACC stores, a home’s product store, has a discount sale at its James Gichuru Road store.

Mobile telephony giants Safaricom, Airtel, Yu and Orange are also working on offers for their subscribers. Orange is running a promotion of up to 50 per cent discount on selected phones.
