DCI summons Sakaja in degree probe

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has asked Nairobi gubernatorial aspirant Johnson Sakaja to explain the reported discrepancies in his academic qualifications.

This is after Sakaja’s lawyer Mr Collins Kiprono received a letter summoning the youthful politician to appear before sleuths investigating the matter at the DCI headquarters in Nairobi.

Sakaja, the outgoing Nairobi Senator, has specifically been summoned to the DCI office Block B, Room 82 situated at Mazingira House.

In the letter, an officer attached to the DCI identified as Mr Kuriah Obadiah said he was investigating an alleged offence of forgery contrary to section 345 as read section 349 of the penal code.

“I believe you, Senator Johnson Sakaja has information that can assist in the investigations,” the letter read in part.

The summons come barely 12 hours after Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai ordered DCI boss George Kinoti to investigate the academic credentials of Mr Sakaja and Ms Wavinya Ndeti who is eyeing Machakos gubernatorial seat.

Sakaja has been asked to appear with a list of documents which include application enrollment in Bachelor of Science in Management (external) at Team University in Uganda, admission letter, school few payment records, course work, names of lecturers and semester by semester transcripts.

The Kenyan law dictates any person offering himself or herself for the gubernatorial seat or presidency must possess a University degree.
