Diamond Platnumz speaks on Rayvanny’s Wasafi exit

Diamond Platnumz has hinted at parting ways with Rayvanny.

The Tanzanian musicians have enjoyed a working relationship under Diamond’s Wasafi label stretching back five years.

“This year, there are other artists that will leave Wasafi to do their own things. I will support them. We can’t always have the same artiste in Wasafi,” said Platnumz, in an interview with the BBC.

The Waah hitmaker made the comment days after Rayvanny edited his Instagram bio and omitted the Wasafi records signee tag from his description.

Rumours that Rayvannny, real name Raymond Shaban, was planning on quitting Wasafi went viral in 2021 when the singer launched his own music label.

Diamond has also addressed his reported beef with Harmonize. The two worked at Wasafi before parting ways in not-so-rosy circumstances.

“I never responded to his bad-mouthing. What saddens me is the fact that you have to verbally abuse me for you to get the attention of fans. Let us not break the respect,” said Diamond.

“Musicians signed by Harmonize (label) are like my grandchildren. I’m happy to have lifted someone who is lifting others.”

On a different note, Diamond expressed his intention to emulate Nigerian artists, praising their music prowess.

“As Wasafi, we are very keen on the music business. We want to be like Nigerians, right now you can’t say which is the biggest artist in Nigeria.”
