Kidero’s post of city suburb roads sparks fury


Nairobi County Governor Evans Kidero has angered a section of city residents with posts on social media of refurbishment work on roads in leafy residential suburbs.

The pictures show refurbishment of roads in relatively good conditions in what clearly appears to be an upper class areas of the city even as Nairobians, mostly from Eastlands, continue to decry the poor state of roads in most of their neigbourhoods.

The residents took to social media to vent their anger on the governor for neglecting them and only concentrating on areas where affluent of the city live.

The post by Dr Kidero was captioned: “Ongoing road works on @Chalbi drive. @county_nairobi continues to repair and refurbish roads in the city. This is part of the ongoing program to repair and refurbish 40 road projects in the city.”

DISGRUNTLED CITY DWELLERS

His post elicited a flurry of response from disgruntled city dwellers.

One Okong’o Nyakundi wrote: “Repairing only for the rich. Get to know what is happening at umoja estate. Filthy, worst roads and no drainage. Anyway thanks.”

Another frustrated user by the name Abuubakar Mkenya, wondered: “Boss do you walk in eastland?? everywhere is dirty..starting from st Peters Tao coming to riverside towards kariokor to Huruma.”

Hassn Bashir also had this to say: “Why not consider where most of the city residents hail from..eastlando..especially umoja areas..busiest being manyanja Rd.” while Assad Kamunge Alwi asked: “Have u seen the state of the roads in eastlands??”
