Comedian Eric Omondi has backed plans by Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga to stage more protests. The comedian has called on Mr Odinga to organise daily protests, saying it is high time the government prioritises the needs of Kenyans.

The comedian has also taken issue with the recent budget allocation of Sh802 million for the purchase of cars for top government officials.

“We are calling for a 14-day daily demonstration. Monday to Monday! Serikali ikose pesa vile tumekosa pesa. We shall join. If he is unable I will have my own protests Wednesday and Friday. I want all of us to unite,” he said.

While addressing journalists on Tuesday at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation, Mr Odinga announced that the protests will now take place twice a week, Mondays and Thursdays beginning next week.

Mr Odinga spoke just a day after leading his supporters to day-long protests that paralysed many businesses activities in Nairobi and Kisumu.

Late last month Mr Omondi was arrested for staging protests over the rising cost of living. The comedian and fellow protesters staged a sit down on Parliament Road before they were arrested and later arraigned in court. Mr Omondi and 16 protesters were released on Sh20,000 bond each.

Some of the protesters who were arrested during Monday protests have since been arraigned in court  and charged with unlawful assembly contrary to section (78) (I) as read with section 79 of the penal code.
