EXCLUSIVE: Why Ken Ambani will continue acting even after government job

Veteran actor Ken Ambani will not halt his acting career even after his appointment to serve as a County Executive Committee member (CEC) in Mombasa by Governor Abdulswamad Sharrif Nassir in March 2023.

Ambani is now the Public Service Administration, Youth, Gender, Social Services, and Sports executive.

Speaking exclusively to Nairobi News, the talented actor said he has to lead by example and if in his leadership he is required to pass a message through his talent and acting, he will gladly do it.

“At the end of the day, we use every opportunity to grow and learn and we have to pass this message through every opportunity,” he said.

Ambani said his role is to educate the masses in Mombasa and especially the youths, on matters to do with gender and social services.

“If I can do that through attending shows, then we will do it,” he said.

He is currently featured in a new Kenyan drama series called ‘A Better Life’.

The show follows a young activist from Nairobi’s largest slum who is caught between her love for the governor’s son and the system she’s spent her life-fighting.

It was written and directed by Jennifer Gatero (Changing Times, Nairobby).

He is among the main cast members playing the role of a Governor.

Speaking about his role, Ambani said the show reflects what is happening in the country.

He also talks about some of the themes tackled in the series.

“There is disagreements and you will see fatality and when the governor decides to do what the community wants him to do, the local leadership will have to engage the community.”

He said even in normal lives, leaders need to accept that they will always work with the community in everything they are doing and that in every power, the people have to be involved.

“My family in the role is also affected since there is a love story between my son and a girl from the slum that we were trying to upgrade and there is a conflict since the people are fighting me,” he said.

Speaking about her series, Jennifer Gatero said it also stars Regina-Re (Pieces of Us), Nyakundi Isaboke (Click Click Bang) and Gitura Kamau (Lusala) alongside a predominantly young cast of newcomers including Tana Gachoka, Ntinyari Karani, Kelvin Kasyoki, Natalia Kyalo, Jeff Omondi and Samuel Baraza.

The series is now streaming on Showmax, with new episodes released every Tuesday.
