Motorbike rider battling robbery with violence charges

A motorbike (bodaboda) rider has been slapped with a robbery with violence charge at the Eldoret High Court.

On April 19, 2023, the court heard that Hudson Wanjala, while armed with a dangerous weapon, attacked and robbed his passenger of property and money.

The incident reportedly happened on April 9, 2023, in the Joyland area in Turbo Sub County.

Mr Wanjala who was in the company of another person not before the court and armed with dangerous weapons including stones and a club, robbed John Paul Onyango of a mobile phone, valued at Sh18,900, plus Sh400, and a cooperative bank ATM card.

The duo also promised to unleash violence on the victim if he did not cooperate.

Mr Wanjala denied the charge before Principal Magistrate Barnabas Kiptoo and accused the complainant of attacking him before hitting him with a motorbike that he was riding.

The motorbike has been detained by police at Eldoret Central police station.

He was released on Sh200,000 bond with similar surety and warned about contacting potential witnesses.

The matter will be mentioned on May 15 for a pre-trial and fixing of hearing dates.
