Gachagua pledges new bus for Kapsabet Boys after road accident


Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has pledged to donate a new bus to Kapsabet High School.

The DP spoke on March 17, after a visit to the institution to console with friends and families of those affected by a road accident the day before.

Police announced the accident had led to the death of a teacher and a student. Dozens of others who were travelling in the bus were left nursing injuries in the hospital.

The accident occurred when the school bus, ferrying 61 students and a teacher lost control and overturned at Patkawinin along the Kabarnet-Marigat highway after losing control.

Baringo County Commissioner Stephen Kutwa confirmed the incident and said investigations had commenced to establish the cause of the accident.

“This is an unfortunate incident and we are shocked by what happened,” said the DP in an address to the school.

Present were the students, teaching and non-teaching staff, plus senior educational officials in the county.

“I have received assurances that those in Eldoret and Baringo hospitals are out of danger. They are no longer in critical condition. They will soon be discharged.”

“I want to encourage you to pray and continue working hard. You need to have ambition that one day you will stand where I am standing. I will have discussions with the President and I am confident he will donate a new bus to ensure continuity of your educational activities.”

The DP also urged drivers to be responsible on the roads.

The accident comes barely a month after celebrated athlete Kelvin Kiptum was killed in a road crash alongside his Rwandan coach.

The deceased athlete was the record holder in the marathon race and was considered favourite to triumph at the Paris Olympics.
