Governor Kidero’s lawyer to attend JSC bribery sitting
Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero’s lawyer, Tom Ojienda, will attend Wednesday’s Judicial Service Commission (JSC) meeting that will deliberate on allegations of a Sh200 million bribe by his client to Justice Philip Tunoi.
The senior counsel on Tuesday said that while the JSC meeting had been marked out in the calendar, “members were not aware of the investigations into the corruption allegations” facing Judge Tunoi of the Supreme Court.
“The JSC has to be properly constituted but once the special agenda is brought to the table and they begin discussing details, I will excuse myself,” he said.
INTERESTED PARTY
The former Law Society of Kenya chairman said he was an interested party as Mr Kidero was seeking to move to court over the allegations that hit the media on Sunday.
On Monday Chief Justice Willy Mutunga said he had received an affidavit on bribery allegations against Justice Tunoi in November.
Investigations were carried out and the report is set to be tabled before the JSC on Wednesday.
Justice Mutunga did not reveal contents of the report, but noted that “other government agencies, including the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission and the Director of Public Prosecutions, will get copies of the report.
WHISTLE-BLOWER
Geoffrey Kiplagat, the whistle-blower, says in the affidavit that Justice Tunoi received $2 million from Mr Kidero to have an election petition filed by Kabete MP Ferdinand Waititu dismissed.
The former Kass FM journalist claimed that he acted as a go-between for the two parties to have the case ruled in favour of Mr Kidero.
Attempts to contact Mr Kidero on Tuesday were unsuccessful as his phone was off.
