Gunman killed as gang attacks Kidero’s bodyguard
A suspected robber was shot dead after snatching a mobile phone and money from Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero’s bodyguard on Monday.
A homemade pistol with two rounds of ammunition was seized from the suspect, whose two accomplices escaped on foot.
The bodyguard, Sylvester Ambasa, told police that he had parked his vehicle on the side of a road in Dandora Phase Two when he was accosted by a three-man gang on a motorcycle.
The three threatened the bodyguard using a gun then robbed him of his mobile phone and Sh5,000 in cash, before escaping using the motorcycle.
Mr Ambasa, a licensed firearm owner, chased after the three on foot while firing towards the gang.
Officers who were on patrol responded and managed to gun down one of the suspects while the other two escaped.
From the slain suspect, police recovered the stolen phone.
Elsewhere in Embakasi, a police officer was seriously injured after he was attacked by three women near Sweet Waters.
Officer Mumba Mwakombo was heading to the shop when the three women confronted him, beat him up and pushed him into a ditch.
He was taken to Mama Lucy Hospital before being transferred to Nairobi West Hospital in a serious condition.
No one has been arrested in connection with the attack and it is not yet clear whether the officer knew the women.
