How 5 employees robbed boss of Sh15m at gunpoint during pandemic

Five violent robbers were found guilty of robbing Mr Daksha Patel, a director of Mitsumi Business Park Computer Garage Limited (MBPCGL) of Sh15 million) at gunpoint four years ago.

The convicts are Walter Keverenge, Bernard Ogutu Oketch, Albert Okech Ochola, Wycliffe Mbarani Mukuviza and George Onyango Mitere.

They were accused of robbing Patel on December 7, 2020, at about 5 pm at MBPCGL where they used to work while armed with pistols.

In their mitigation, the accused pleaded for mercy, saying a harsh custodial sentence, which may even be a life sentence since it is a capital offence, will impact negatively on their young families, which they fend for.

Keverenge told the magistrate that he was a supervisor at the MBPCGL and that he had put in several years at the workplace to establish himself and his family.

He prayed for leniency, urging the court to call for a probation report for him and his co-accused to salvage their already dented lives.

“The accused have promised to change if they are given a second chance. Since December 7 2020 they have been in prison custody. They have learnt life the hard way,” a defense lawyer urged.

Milimani senior principal magistrate Bernard Ochoi called for a probation report for all the convicts.

He ordered they be detained at Industrial prison until January 29, 2024, when he will hand down a sentence.
