Immigration Dept: Why some passport applicants need to apply afresh
The Immigration Department has asked Kenyans who submitted applications for passports before September, but are yet to issued with the document, to report to their offices.
Applicants should visit immigration offices with the receipts issued during their initial application so that they can be given new tokens that will help in processing the new ePassport.
Those mostly affected have the tracking numbers beginning with 1120, 131 and 151.
The Immigration Department on September 1 began to roll out the new ePassport, is an initiative by the East African Community to synchronise passports across the region.
The ePassport, according to acting Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, offers additional security checks and it will be difficult to produce duplicates and will not bear the same passport number as current passport. It will have a new number.
