Investigative journalist John Namu pays glowing tribute to Rita Tinina

Acclaimed journalist John Allan Namu has paid a glowing tribute to the late Rita Tinina, remembering her fondly for her exceptional qualities and unwavering professionalism.

Reflecting on their time together, Namu recalled their collaboration during the #countyedition programme on NTV in 2010.

Recalling the challenges he faced during his transition from KTN to NTV, Namu credited Tinina for making his integration into the team seamless.

“Kericho, 2010. One of the nearly 40 times she and I sat next to each other to present #CountyEdition,” Namu shared.

In describing Tinina’s enduring qualities, Namu praised her quick wit, poise and infectious laugh.

He highlighted her professionalism and affable nature, noting that she made a lasting impact on everyone she met.

“Rita’s poise, her quick wit and infectious laugh, and her class are what I will remember most,” said Namu, reflecting on the memorable moments they shared.

“In a tough business, it is hard to meet a truly good person. Rita was that,” he added.

Rita Tinina’s death was attributed to severe pneumonia, according to the results of an autopsy conducted on Tuesday 19 March.

Speaking on behalf of the family at Umash Funeral Home, spokesman Timothy Njaga expressed satisfaction with the autopsy results, which confirmed the cause of death.

“We came here to witness the post-mortem which was conducted by Dr Ndegwa and the family pathologist. We were given the results that the late Rita died of severe pneumonia,” he said.

Njaga also appealed for privacy and respect for the grieving family at this difficult time.

“We should remember that there is a family that is affected,” Njaga urged.

Meetings will be held at All Saints Cathedral from 5.30pm today and further details on funeral plans will be announced later.
