Is this a declaration of ‘Raila tosha’ by Nasa?

Cord leader Raila Odinga has seemingly emerged as the preferred presidential candidate for the newly formed National Super Alliance (Nasa) coalition for the August general elections.

This is going by the events that unfolded during the political outfit’s official launch on Wednesday at the Bomas of Kenya.

The three-time Presidential aspirant was accorded the privilege of speaking last at the well-attended event that brought together key opposition politicians and delegates from five major parties namely ODM, Wiper Democratic Movement, Ford Kenya, Amani National Coalition (ANC) and Kanu.

Wiper leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, ANC supremo, Musalia Mudavadi, and Ford Kenya boss Moses Wetanglua, were all in attendance and gave their speeches.

“We’ll make it impossible for anyone to steal the elections. Stealing these elections will be regretted so don’t try it. I also urge you to mobilise our people to register as voters,” Odinga said in his written speech.

The four leaders have on separate occasions declared their presidential ambitions, but have since been brought together to forge a united opposition front to face Jubilee Party at the polls.

The occasion brought together Mr Mudavadi and Mr Odinga on one political table for the first time since the ANC leader quit ODM in the run up to the 2013 general elections.

Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho, plus Senators Boni Khalwale, James Orengo and Johnstone Muthama are the other high profile leaders who were allowed to address the gathering.

As a show of unity, leaders from the parties were allowed to don caps, scarfs and regalia from other parties, with Odinga at one moment, seen wearing the ODM, Wiper and ANC caps at the same time.
