Jackie Matubia to replace Illya Frank in Salem series

Actress Jackie Matubia is set to replace Illya Frank in Salem, a telenovela series dubbed Salem.

Illya shared that she was disappointed by the exit explaining that she had created a bond with her character and the cast and crew.

While announcing her decision to quit on her Instagram, Illya explained there were larger issues at play citing that if production companies took better care of their crew, artists could deliver better quality work and enjoy their craft even more.

Further, she noted that players in the industry should also be reminded to make decisions with greater transparency and consideration for the artists involved.

“The culture of fear needs to end as artists should not have to compromise their well-being for the sake of their careers. It is time for the industry to create a safer and more respectful working environment. The industry should be the one to nurture creativity, not exploit and it is time to speak up and demand better as a community.”

Illya took over from Mumbi Maina who was best known for her role as Zara on 15th August 2022. She first hit the screens in her debut performance on Reality Show, Nairobi Diaries, and later played a key role in the comedy series Disconnect as Belinda.

Matubia, a former Mother-In-Law actress will be making a comeback in the acting industry after delivering her second child in mid-2022.

Speaking on her YouTube channel, Matubia narrated that a minor accident during an event prompted tests that would reveal she was expectant.

She narrated that she had missed a step while backstage that led to her falling but she did not feel anything until the next day when she experienced difficulty sitting and walking.

It would take her another day after she started experiencing pain and swelling she sought medical treatment. Before realising that she was expectant, Matubia was the lead actress in Citizen Tv’s drama series Zora which premiered on March 22nd, 2021, to March 7th, 2022.
