Kenyan clubs no longer interested in Ugandan striker Umony
Interest on deadly Ugandan forward Brian Umony by three Kenyan Premier League has reportedly waned, Nairobi News can reveal.
The 26 year old, who scored the lone goal when Uganda defeated Kenya to win the Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup in Kampala in 2009, is considered one of the best strikers in the region.
Umony’s impressive CV seemed to have caught the eyes of three of Kenya’s top teams AFC Leopards, Gor Mahia and Sofapaka in the past few weeks, amidst suggestion that his agent has made him available for a move.
But the three teams are now said to be wary of the former Kampala City Council (KCC), SuperSport United (South Africa) and Portland Timbers (USA) striker’s recent score rate and the fact that he has been injury prone while at Tanzanian club Azam over the past year.
“He is a good player who really wants to join us, but we also have other options that the technical bench has forwarded us. In the end we will go for the best possible signing both financially and someone who can consistently do the job,” Sofapaka President Elly Kalekwa said.
The GOtv Shield champions are said to be eyeing a number of options just incase their highest scorer last season, Enock Agwanda, who is being pursued by Tanzanian giants Yanga, departs.
The other team that is said to be interested in signing Umony is Ethiopian club St Georges.
