Deported Kenyans arrive at JKIA as Trump’s policy on immigrants bites

More than 90 Somalia nationals and two Kenyans arrived at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Wednesday after being deported from the United States.

The deportees, believed to have been affected by US President Donald Trump’s policy on illegal immigrants, arrived at JKIA at midday aboard Omni – an American Charter Airline.

The Somalis then boarded a Juba Airline that left for Mogadishu at 3pm.

Security sources at the Airport stated that the travelers were accompanied by American security officers who also accompanied them to Mogadishu.

Airport OCPD Zipporah Waweru confirmed that there had been a plane carrying Somalis on transit to Mogadishu, but she could not confirm whether they were deportees.

“They have left and to me, they looked happy so I cannot for sure tell you that they were deported or not,” Ms Waweru said.

During his campaign President Trump vowed to kick out illegal immigrants and immigrants with criminal records.

On Tuesday, Mr Trump said he was ready to build the wall on the Mexican border and send away illegal immigrants.
