Kibicho: Raila will win August election in round one by 60 per cent

Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho asserts that Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya Coalition presidential candidate Raila Odinga will win the August 9 General Election by more than 60 per cent of the votes cast.

“National Intelligence Service data shows that the Raila-Karua ticket will win by 60% of the presidential votes in the 1st round. The rest of the presidential candidates will share the 40 per cent,” Kibicho said in a TV interview.

“If you ask me what the data says, and because you are entitled to my answer as a public servant, I will give you as it is then the burden of proof shifts to you.”

Mr Odinga, a seasoned politician is, alongside Deputy President William Ruto, are considered the front runners in the race to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta whose second term of office lapses in August.

Kibicho, considered among the most powerful civil servants in President Kenyatta’s regime, also responded to critics who he says keep reminding him he will soon leave office.

The PS has been the target of attacks from the DP’s lieutenants, led by lawmakers Kimani Ichungwa, Ndindi Nyoro and blogger Dennis Itumbi, who often accuse him of frustrating Dr Ruto’s march to State House.

“I read social media and every time I hear people saying I have less than two months left in office. I’m prepared to leave because by law we have to leave. You too, (pointing at the TV presenter) will one day leave office. They (my critics) will also leave what they are doing,” he observed.

Kibicho also said the Interior Ministry is prepared to oversee the handing over of power from President Kenyatta to the person who will be elected Kenya’s fifth president in August.

“In our ministry we have a committee that is preparing a handing over report that is going across the country,” he offered, adding that it is upon the next leader to determine whether the report is of use or not.
