Langata MP in tenancy row over non-payment of female friend’s rent
A Member of Parliament is facing accusations of issuing threats to a property owner in Nairobi over defaulted rent payment for a house which he allegedly rented for a lady friend.
According the landlady of the house situated in Langata, area MP, Joash Olum, has for several months failed to pay rent for the house whose occupant is a woman by the name Rachel Maina.
The landlady, Ms Anne Ombuna, further claims that her repeated pleas to have the rent payment settled have fallen on deaf ears.
“After several pleas to him to pay failed and taking into account the fact that this property is on loan, I have reverted to the terms and agreements in an effort to recover my dues,” Ombuna wrote in a long Facebook post.
She also narrated how earlier in the week when she got to the property, which is under repair, the tenant in question called the MP who sent his bodyguard to threaten her.
LIFE IN DANGER
The bodyguard, whom Ms Ombuna only identified as Mr Muhehe, allegedly harassed and and she now claims her life is in danger.
During the commotion, the said bodyguard called some of his colleagues from Langata Police Station to back him up but the latter left after they realized it was a tenant disagreement.
When contacted, the DCIO of Langata Police Station, Elijah Maina, told Nairobi News that it was the correct call for his officers to leave because it was not a police matter.
“My officers acted as they should and the aggrieved person should follow up with either the OCS or the OCPD if the said bodyguard threatened her life,” said Maina.
The owner of the house claims that she reported the matter to Langata Police Station and was given OB No 29-05/04/2017. She however remains fearful for her life since she claims that the MP has refused to pick her calls and is instead using his bodyguard to threaten her.
Efforts by Nairobi News to reach the MP proved futile with all calls and text messages going unanswered.
