Late AKA to receive global visionary award at 2023 BET Hip Hop awards
The 2023 “BET Hip Hop Awards” is gearing up to pay tribute to the late Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes by bestowing upon him the prestigious Global Visionary Award.
In a heartfelt moment, AKA’s family, Lynn and Tony Forbes, will accept the award on his behalf during a pre-recorded special as part of the international broadcast of the show.
They expressed their feelings, saying:
“This is a bittersweet moment for us as a family. Kiernan lived for music and gave his all to creating a legacy that has outlived him.
Thank you BET for bestowing such a rightful honor to Kiernan. He would have accepted this award with pride.
We are humbled to receive and acknowledge this honor on his behalf, especially for Kairo, who gets to witness her father’s legacy live on.”

The annual “BET Hip Hop Awards” will be overseen by Connie Orlando, EVP, Specials, Music Programming & Music Strategy, with Jamal Noisette, VP, Specials & Music Programming, serving as Executive Producer for BET.
Jesse Collins, CEO of Jesse Collins Entertainment, will join as the Executive Producer of the “BET Hip Hop Awards” 2023, alongside Jesse Collins Entertainment’s Jeannae Rouzan–Clay and Dionne Harmon.
This honor bestowed upon the late AKA, a respected figure in the Hip Hop world, is a testament to his enduring influence on the music genre and his lasting legacy in the hearts of fans worldwide.
The 2023 “BET Hip Hop Awards” will celebrate not only his musical contributions but also his visionary impact on the culture.
