Lipa Na M-Pesa among 10 Safaricom services to be unavailable tonight


Telco giant Safaricom has issued a public notice informing its customers of planned maintenance that will disrupt their mobile money transfer service among them Lipa Na M-Pesa.

In a statement issued by the company, the services will be unavailable on June 11, 2023, for one hour between 11:00 pm to 11:59 pm.

Safaricom, however, said that all other services including calls, data, and SMS would be available during the maintenance period.

According to the giant telco, they explained that upgrading its systems was meant to increase its capacity in line with customer growth and to support innovation to meet the different needs of its subscribers.

The services that will miss include:

  • Lipa Na M-Pesa and Buy goods and services
  • M-Pesa Business to Customer – B2C, Business to Business-B2B
  • USSD services including *100# and *200#
  • Daraja portal and all Mpesa API’s
  • M-Pesa organization Portal, dealer portal and Lipa Na M-Pesa portal
  • International Money Transfers (Western union) and M-pesa Global
  • Mpesa App and Safaricom app
  • M-Shwari, KCB M-PESA and M-Kesho.
  • Pinless Top Up
  • IoT services

At the same time, Safaricom apologized for any inconvenience the planned exercise will cause to customers.

“We apologize for any inconvenience that may be caused and thank you for your support as we continue to enhance our services to serve you even better,” the notice added.

The platform has over 40 million users and processes over Sh60 billion a day.

Safaricom has been operating M-Pesa for 15 years, a period that has ushered in a new period of money transactions.
