Man who raped three minors in a church jailed for 100 years
A 20-year-old man found guilty of defiling three minors in a church was on Wednesday sentenced to 100 years in prison.
Mr Harrison Kinyua, was sentenced to the jail term by Embu Senior Resident Magistrate Vincent Nyakundi after the prosecution convinced the court that he had actually defiled the schoolgirls aged 13 and 10 years.
The accused is said to have committed the offence on December 10 last year in a church compound in Kangaru village, Embu County.
During the hearing that took less than one year, the court heard how, on the material day, Mr Kinyua pursued the three girls as they returned chairs that had been borrowed from the church for a funeral.
He locked the gate and the church doors and then ordered them to lie down before defiling them.
Mr Kinyua is said to have dismissed one of the girls saying she didn’t exhibit bodily signs of puberty such as breasts.
He then gave them Sh20 each to buy chips at a nearby market.
The parents of the victims, however, discovered the incident and reported to the police.
DEFILED
While testifying, Embu West Children’s Officer Irene Komu explained how she aided the children to record statements.
Dr Christine Nyangilo, who works at the Embu Level Five Hospital, told the court how she examined the schoolgirls aged 13 and 10 years and found them to have been defiled.
She said the girls were taken to the hospital on December 10 last year and all had muddied clothes after they were allegedly defiled.
Dr Nyangilo, while being guided by State Counsel Beatrice Manyal, said that although all the girls showed signs of having freshly been defiled, two of them, who are aged 13 years, were not virgins.
“Their clothes were dirty especially on the back side. There was tenderness in their private parts and a whitish discharge. Two of them had been defiled before,” she said.
However, Mr Kinyua had earlier denied the charges saying the girls’ families had a grudge with him.
Mr Gicheru, in his ruling, said evidence proved without any doubt that Mr Kinyua committed the crime and thus deserved the sentence.
He said the offense was serious and the accused should serve the sentence to deter others.
