Manhunt for company manager who was filmed ruthlessly assaulting employee
A manager of a micro-finance company in Nyamira County who was filmed assaulting an employee has gone into hiding, the police have said.
The suspect is reported to have gone into hiding after the video of the shocking assault was widely shared on social media.
Nyamira County police boss Mr Michael Lesimam said the police have since launched a manhunt for the suspect.
“We are aware of the matter and a manhunt has already been launched for the suspect who remains at large,” Mr Lesimam said on Friday.
However, Nairobi News established that by Friday, the victim had yet to formally report the matter to the police.
The video, which was secretly recorded by another employee, shows a man raining blows, kicks and slaps on an employee who can be heard wailing in pain.
The manager questions the employee on why he is fond of going to Oyugis in Homa Bay County while using the company’s resources as he continues beating him up. When the employee, who is lying on the floor, attempts to stand up, the manager rains more slaps on his head.
“Yaani my colleagues mmenyamaza nkiuliwa,” the employee is heard crying out as he seeks help from his colleagues.
One female employee, who has her back to the unfolding incident, is seen stealing quick glances over her shoulders before continuing with her work.
Nairobi News has established that administrators of the company’s Facebook page pulled it down on Friday, June 17 at 9:37am.
This after Kenyans online started tagging the page as they called for action from the police and detectives attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.
When Nairobi News sought to get the company’s side of the story, a human resource staffer promised to call back but never did so.
“Just give us a moment and we shall call you back,” the staffer said before hanging up.
Nairobi News has also established that the company, which was established in 2016, was in the process of deactivating its website.
On the website, the company describes itself as a private firm with a presence in Central, Eastern, Nyanza, South Rift and Coast regions.
“We provide microcredit to the poor and unbanked,” a statement in the company’s website read.
