Here are the messages Kenyans are sharing on Madaraka Day
With President Uhuru Kenyatta set to lead Kenyans in celebrating 55 years of self rule, citizens have shared interesting messages on social media on what they would want for the country.
Even with Meru residents filling up the refurbished 18,000 seater Kinoru Stadium for Madaraka Day celebrations, a majority of Kenyans online feel there is little to celebrate.
Predictably, corruption seems to the one thing they want to have addressed by President Kenyatta’s government.
Here are some of the messages, Kenyans have shared on social media:
Kenya is 55 years today and as we celebrate it, let us all do something for our motherland. I support the President 100% on the fight against corruption. May we dwell in peace and liberty, and may plenty be found within our borders. Happy #MadarakaDay fellow Kenyans.

#MadarakaDay
We have achieved unity and healing for our nation, what i left that we need to acheieve is a corrupt free nation, i know we can, it starts from the simple steps we will make everyday, like jailing the Nys thieves and making sure they return and pay every single coin— Ministry Of Corruption Ke? What is there to celebrate when the whole country is falling down a cliff and we’re being colonized by our own leaders??.. This day has been turned into nothing more than a free day from school or work and that’s it!! ? #MadarakaDay pic.twitter.com/5QpDsoMNIv

#MadarakaDay Happy ‘looting freedom ‘ . Sometimes I wonder , did our forefathers fight for madaraka ya kupora nchi ? People looting from right, left and center. KANU ya jenga nchi , jubilee ya pora .
