Morgan Heritage sales sour with the death of lead vocalist Peetah Morgan
Grammy Award-winning reggae band Morgan Heritage is experiencing a significant surge in the streams and sales of their music catalog since the announcement of the passing of the group’s lead vocalist Peetah Morgan.
Kenya is among the leading countries in experiencing the surge of Morgan Heritage’s catalog since the news of Peetah’s demise went out.
On the sales-driven U.S. iTunes Reggae chart, their 2021 compilation album Legacy which features 35 hits including Don’t Haffi Dread, A Man Is Still A Man, and Down By The River, peaked at number 5 as of last week.
Throughout last weekend, Morgan Heritage albums ‘More Teachings’ (2001) and ‘Live In Amsterdam’ (2004) entered the top ten on the Reggae iTunes chart for the first time.
Both albums have been sitting above number 20 in the said chart.
‘Tell Me How Come’ has been charting on Apple Music at position 38 in Dominica 39 in the British Virgin Islands, and no 84 in Sierra Leone. In Kenya, it holds position 56 on Deezer.
While ‘I’m Coming Home” holds positions 77 in Gambia, 43 in Kenya, 92 in Uganda, 159 in Senegal, and 162 in Tanzania. Meanwhile
The album “Full Circle released in 2006, entered Apple Music charts at #24 in Gambia, #30 in Guyana, #37 in Sierra Leone, #38 in Saint Kitts #83 in Tanzania, #87 in Belize, #91 in Dominica, and #93 in Senegal, reports World Music Views.
A memorial for the fallen legend was held on Thursday in Orlando, Florida US with another planned in April Kingston, Jamaica.
The dates of Peetah’s burial are yet to be released.
