Muigai Wa Njoroge’s first wife shares emotional burden of husband’s polygamous moves

Njeri, the first wife of renowned Kikuyu musician Muigai Wa Njoroge has disclosed the emotional turmoil she faced after her husband announced his intention to take on a second wife.

The mother of four revealed that the revelation pushed her into a dark period of alcoholism and depression.

Njeri recounted the moment she learned about her husband’s decision to marry again in a recent radio interview stating”

“When I found out that he had married another woman, I went crazy. I went so crazy and so mad. He was not able to handle my anger; he left me and the kids in Mwihoko and went to live with that woman.”

Despite the passage of 12 years since the polygamous union, Njeri clarified that her seemingly composed demeanor today is a result of the extensive time she took to process the bitterness that initially consumed her.

“Now people want me to behave the right way, but they don’t know I already reacted to this matter,” she remarked during the interview.

The musician’s first wife shared that her life spiraled into chaos after the news, leading to frequent fights and eventually a two-year battle with alcohol consumption as a coping mechanism for depression.

She confessed to traversing from one club to another during this tumultuous period.

“At that time, I was also so broke, but people including his friends would buy me alcohol. I would take anything just to be drunk. I went through hell, and people did not know what I was going through,” Njeri revealed.

The emotional toll took such a significant toll on Njeri that, at one point, she contemplated suicide. However, she credited the grace of God for preventing her from taking such drastic measures.

Reflecting on her journey, Njeri admitted that it took over five years to overcome the hurt.

She expressed regret for how she initially handled the pain but offered advice to others, encouraging them to allow themselves to feel the pain as it marks the beginning of the healing process.

In a surprising turn of events, Njeri launched the ‘Woman of Courage Foundation’ in December 2023, a testament to her strength and determination to overcome adversity.

Muigai Wa Njoroge, the polygamous musician, acknowledged Njeri’s acceptance of his second wife, Queen Stacey, expressing gratitude for her understanding.

“You always make me happy because when I told you I wanted another wife, you didn’t oppose it. You accepted her as my wife because if you opposed her and I had accepted her, nothing could have changed. Thanks for accepting her,” he expressed.
