Ndindi Nyoro’s shift in aspiring for DP seat in 2027

By Sammy Waweru January 29th, 2024 2 min read

Kiharu Member of Parliament (MP) Ndindi Nyoro has seemingly backed away from his ambition to succeed Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in 2027.

According to the outspoken MP affiliated with the Kenya Kwanza Government, he, alongside other members of the coalition, strongly supports President William Ruto and his DP, Gachagua.

In a video that appears to be a departure from his previous narrative of vying for the second-in-command position in 2027, the lawmaker declares his “full total and unconditional support” for the head of state and his principal assistant.

“When they are in front, all of us, even Ndindi Nyoro, led by President Ruto and DP Gachagua, are hands-on for our bosses,” the MP stated.

The presidency consists of the President and the Deputy President, and Mr Ndindi said his mandate is to support them in reforming the country.

“Our work is to support them since we have objectives, vision, and plans to take the country forward, especially the economy because if Kenya succeeds, all Kenyans will get reprieve, and that is why we support our leaders,” explained the Kiharu MP.

Ndindi has been travelling to different parts of the country, visiting schools and advising his fellow lawmakers on how he has empowered learners and schools in his constituency.

The MP is ranked as one of the top performers across the country, and some legislators allied to Kenya Kwanza announced endorsing him to deputize Dr Ruto in 2027 as he seeks re-election for his second and final term as President.

However, the endorsement did not sit well with DP Gachagua, who is on record urging the young and vibrant leaders from Mt Kenya and the country at large to give them (the President and his Deputy) space to work for the Kenyans.

Mr Gachagua said, “The youthful leaders will have a chance to be at the helm of top leadership, and this is not the right time for campaigning; instead, you should focus your energy on working for your electorates”.

Gachagua, before being appointed Ruto’s running mate in the run-up to the 2022 general elections, served as the Mathira MP.

Mr Ndindi, now serving his second term in parliament, has found himself at a crossroads as some Kenya Kwanza politicians and lawmakers have accused him of disrespecting the DP.

The vocal lawmaker was re-elected through the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party ticket in 2022.
