The National Housing Corporation (NHC) has issued a repossession notice to tenants of a number city estates.

They include purchasers of Lang’ata’s four phases, Jonathan Ng’eno and Nyayo Highrise under its tenant-purchase scheme.

According to the notice, Lang’ata 4 tenants are the worst offenders, the highest accruing arrears of Sh550,000 and the lowest Sh106,000.

At Nyayo Highrise the average debt is Sh30,000 per tenant. The 21-day notice will affect 94 Nairobi households.

The scheme run by the parastatal develops houses for sale, supposedly to low-income earners.

The tenant purchase scheme allows a 10 per cent deposit with the balance paid within 20 years through monthly payments.
