ODM’s Abbas Khalif tipped for Nairobi county majority leader role
South ‘C’ ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) Abbas Khalif is poised to be elected the next Nairobi county Majority leader.
Nairobi News understands the Nairobi-based businessman who was elected on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket reportedly has 33 MCAs supporting his bid.
The first-term MCA is said to be causing the newly elected Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja and the minority Kenya Kwanza team sleepless nights because of his nonsensical nature and straightforwardness.
He is also said to have deep pockets and thus cannot be easily compromised.
“He is capable of offering strong oversight against the executive and governor who was elected on a rival party ticket,” an MCA who spoke off the record told Nairobi News.
Khalif is reported to have marshaled the Azimio brigade in the county assembly to support former Kware MCA Ken Ng’ondi’s bid to be elected the Nairobi County Assembly Speaker.
Ng’ondi who is the Azimio torch bearer for the Nairobi County Assembly Speaker’s job contest is up against the Gender Cabinet Administrative Secretary (CAS) Rachael Shebesh, Embakasi North parliamentary seat loser Harrison Wangoro, and outgoing Speaker Benson Mutura.
“Despite Azimio losing the Governor’s seat we are not discouraged and will fight to ensure that our presence in the city’s politics is felt. I will ensure that I keep Azimio’s fire burning,” vowed Khalif.
