Peetah Morgan’s memorial service announced ahead of his burial


The reggae world mourns the loss of a cherished talent, Peter Anthony “Peetah” Morgan, renowned lead singer of Morgan Heritage, a Grammy-winning family reggae band.

Peetah Morgan passed away on February 25, 2024, at the age of 46, leaving behind a profound legacy of musical innovation and cultural resonance.

The news of Peetah’s passing was announced by the iconic reggae band, Morgan Heritage, on February 25th.

In light of this heartbreaking loss, the band has organized a memorial service to honor Peetah’s life, slated to take place in Orlando, Florida, on March 7th.

Additionally, a celebration of Peetah’s enduring legacy is planned in Kingston, Jamaica, at the beginning of April.

Survived by his devoted wife Maria Gunabe-Morgan, along with 11 children and 2 grandchildren, Peetah leaves behind a legacy cherished by fans worldwide.

In a heartfelt statement, the band expressed gratitude for the unwavering love and support from their fans over the years, assuring that the enduring legacy they’ve collectively built will transcend generations.

“Thank you all again for your continued love and support over the years. Please rest assured that the Legacy we’ve built together will surely live on and will be passed down from generation to generation,” the statement reads.

Peetah Morgan, born Peter Anthony Morgan, was a cornerstone of the Jamaica-based band, Morgan Heritage.

Formed in 1994 in Brooklyn, New York, Morgan Heritage quickly rose to prominence with their unique blend of reggae rhythms and soulful melodies.

Founded by the five Morgan siblings, sons of reggae luminary Denroy Morgan, the band captured the hearts of audiences worldwide with their debut album, “Miracle,” before returning to their roots in Jamaica to further cultivate their sound.

Comprising Peter “Peetah” Morgan on vocals, Una Morgan on vocals and keyboard, Roy “Gramps” Morgan on vocals and keyboard, Nakhamyah “Lukes” Morgan on rhythm guitar, and Memmalatel “Mr Mojo” Morgan on vocals and percussion, Morgan Heritage enchanted audiences with their harmonious compositions and infectious energy.

The recent passing of Peetah Morgan leaves the band with four remaining members, with Una Morgan affectionately dubbed the ‘first lady’ as the sole female member.

Una and Lukes have not been super active in music, but each member of Morgan Heritage has pursued individual projects alongside their collective endeavors.

Roy “Gramps” Morgan, also known as the CEO of Dada Son Entertainment, ventured into solo work with the release of his debut album, “Two Sides of My Heart.”

Since its formation, the band has embarked on global tours and released multiple reggae albums, leaving an indelible mark on the music industry and the hearts of fans worldwide.

Peetah Morgan’s legacy will continue to resonate through his timeless music and the enduring spirit of Morgan Heritage.
