Police appeal to the public to help them arrest wanted gangster

By Nyaboga Kiage September 14th, 2023 2 min read

Police in Nairobi and Kiambu Counties are asking members of the public to share information that will lead to the arrest of a wanted suspect who is believed to be armed and dangerous.

The suspect, who is only known by his alias Morio, was captured in a CCTV footage robbing a supermarket within Mwihoko in Kiambu County before a member of the gang was shot dead.

“Morio survived when his other friend was shot dead, anyone who can help us get information of his whereabouts will be of great assistance,” the police said in a statement.

According to the police, Morio was part of a group of suspected robbers who allegedly stormed into two mini-supermarkets within Mwitirithia on August 19, 2023 and made away with an unknown amount of cash and other valuables.

They then used a getaway motorbike to flee the scene but were cornered within Manguo Area in Kasarani, Nairobi County.

As soon as the gangsters left the crime scene, residents called for help hoping the motorbike would be stopped.

Ms Lucy Wairimu, an area resident, said she was preparing to retire to bed when she heard the screams.

“I made a few calls only to be told that three armed robbers had just stolen from the neighborhood. I was really scared,” she said.

Another resident said he was in the house and he could hear the people screaming outside.

“I heard screams but feared to get out of the house because these days Mwihoko is very insecure,” said Moses Limo.

The motorbike was flagged down at the bridge by the plainclothes police officers but the suspects defied the orders and shot at the police.

In response, the officers fired back, killing one suspect on the spot, while two suspects escaped.

A detective attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) who spoke in confidence said the slain suspect has been terrorizing residents of Kasarani, Hunters and Mwiki areas for some time.

Nairobi County police boss Mr Adamson Bungei said the manhunt for two fugitives is on and that the suspects will soon be apprehended.
