Police officer remanded for shooting undercover colleague outside pub

A police officer who allegedly shot dead a colleague outside a bar in Highrise estate, last Thursday has been remanded for fourteen days.

Abdullahi Waqo, based at Capitol Hill police post, was arrested on Saturday over the murder of undercover police officer Robert Ondiri Isaboke who was based at Pangani police station.

The prosecution, in a miscellaneous application on Monday, told court that police had not recorded statements from witnesses at the scene.

“We are seeking fourteen days. We want to record statements from people who witnessed the incident,” a prosecutor told the court.

The suspect appeared at Kibera law courts on Monday and was remanded to Kilimani police station until March 24.

Patrons at the bar claimed the two officers engaged in a fist fight, after which Mr Waqo reached for his gun and shot his colleague in the head.

The two reportedly clashed after the suspect demanded a beer at the club but waiters declined to serve him.

He is said to have found Mr Isaboke in the bar.

After shooting him he escaped using a vehicle he had hired. Police found the car in Kitengela on Saturday.
