Property worth millions lost in Karen fire

Property worth millions of shillings was reduced ashes on Saturday morning after a fire gutted several structures including a popular lounge in Karen.

The fire is suspected to have been caused by an electrical fault.

According to Nairobi Business Community Chairman, Wilfred Kamau, who is also the owner of Kambi Lounge said he was called at around 1am and told that his establishment was on fire.

“I’m glad that no one was injured in the incident but I lost everything in the fire,” said Kamau who also owns the Karen Exhibition Centre.

He estimated his loss to be upwards of Sh20 million.

“When the fire broke it spread to the exhibition and a garage which is next to my establishment. Inside the garage I had a Mercedes Benz which was reduced to ashes,” he added.

It took the efforts of Nairobi Fire Brigade and citizen efforts to put out the fire.
