Raila praises Ruto’s government despite ‘resistance’ call

Azimio leader Raila Odinga has sought services at a government office days after questioning its legitimacy and demanding President William Ruto’s resignation.

Mr. Odinga, on January 26, 2023, toured Nyayo House within Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD) to renew his expired passport.

He was received by Julius Bitok, the Principal Secretary for Citizen Services who incidentally is among President Ruto’s cabinet members being called upon to resign by the seasoned politician.

Donning a blue suit and matching tie, and escorted by his security, Mr. Odinga was taken through the process of getting a new passport. A number of photos he shared on social media show him having his photos and fingerprints taken.

“My passport expired and today I went down to the immigration department to renew it. I’d like to thank the agency’s friendly and helpful staff for the reception and timely service,” he wrote on Twitter.

Mr. Odinga’s visit to the Immigration office could as well imply he still needs government services despite the criticism and resignation calls.

While addressing a charged crowd at the Kamukunji grounds on Monday, January 23, 2023, Mr. Odinga said he doesn’t recognize William Ruto as the duly elected President of Kenya and demanded that Kenya Kwanza government resigns.

“We cannot and will not recognize the Kenya Kwanza regime and consider its government illegitimate,” he declared.

Mr Odinga, who finished second behind President Ruto in the August 2022 polls as per the official Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commision (IEBC) data, also called on Kenyans to resist punitive taxes by President Ruto’s regime and vowed to hold a number of rallies to sensitize the public against what he says is the rigged election in August 2022.

He claimed the results of the August 2022 polls were manipulated in favor of President Ruto and vowed to address a series of rallies around the country in a bid to put pressure on the Kenya Kwanza regime
