RIP: Another Nollywood death, actor Amaechi Muonagor passes aged 61
Renowned Nollywood actor Amaechi Muonagor has passed away at the age of 61, leaving behind a legacy of memorable performances and beloved characters.
Nigerian social commentator, and community leader, Morris Monye who was recently appointed the Chairman, of Delta State e-Sports Association confirmed the news that Muonagor succumbed to kidney-related issues, diabetes, and stroke on Sunday, March 24.
“Deeply heartbroken by the news of Amaechi Muonagor’s passing.
He was a talented Nollywood actor whose presence on our screens was truly masterful. We watched with concern as he battled health issues, offering whatever support we could to help him seek treatment in India. This tragic loss highlights the need for better healthcare in our country.”
Another Nollywood actor and film director, Ugeze J. Ugeze said the late actor was discharged from the hospital recently while waiting to raise funds for his further treatment abroad.
He described the deceased as a dedicated actor, who was always ready to be directed while on set.
“Muonagor gave his all. He was somebody I directed several times. God knows the best,“ Ugeze said.

His health had been deteriorating since he suffered a stroke in 2023, which resulted in partial paralysis of his left leg.
Despite undergoing weekly dialysis and physiotherapy treatments, Muonagor’s condition worsened in recent weeks, culminating in his untimely demise.
His death comes just days after he made a heartfelt plea for financial assistance on social media to fund a kidney transplant, underscoring the challenges he faced in his final days.
A prolific actor, Muonagor graced the screens in numerous Nigerian movies, earning acclaim for his roles in popular films such as “Aki and Paw Paw,” where he portrayed the father of two mischievous young boys.
He is survived by his wife, Hope Chikodi Muonagor, and their children, as well as legions of grieving fans who have taken to social media to express their sorrow.
Muonagor’s passing follows closely on the heels of another tragic loss in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
Just three weeks ago, actor John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, passed away at Evercare Hospital in Nigeria on March 4.
Ibu, celebrated for his comedic talent, gained fame two decades ago for his role in the Nigerian comedy “Mr Ibu,” which earned him widespread acclaim and the enduring nickname “Mr Ibu.”
Emeka Rollas, President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, confirmed Okafor’s passing, citing a cardiac arrest as the cause of death.
