Ruto appoints Muteti chair of Special Economic Zones Authority

President William has appointed Fred Muteti as chairperson of the Special Economic Zones Authority.

Muteti’s appointment was confirmed through a gazette notice dated April 26, 2023.

Mr Muteti will serve for three years, replacing Mr Ngeny Biwott who only served for three months.

Mr Biwott has been moved to Kenya Accreditation Services for a period of three years, where he will serve as the chairperson.

Muteti is a close political ally of President Ruto.

He served as secretary general of the defunct United Republic Party (URP).

He then enjoyed a separate stint aschairperson of the board at Sports Kenya.

The appointment represented some sort of a comeback for Mr Muteti who narrowly missed out on an appointment as EALA MP following nomination.

Also, Muteti is among President Ruto’s loyalties from Ukambani region which is dominated by the Wiper Democratic Party of Mr Kalonzo Musyoka.

The President has been rewarding his close allies in the recent appointments to various sectors, putting meaning to the words of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, where he likened the government to a company shareholders.
