House help charged with indecent act with minor

A house help who reportedly fondled her employer’s two-year-old daughter’s private parts has been charged in an Eldoret court.

Regina Wanjiru was on Wednesday charged at an Eldoret court with having an indecent act with a child aged one year and four months contrary to the sexual offenses act after she was allegedly found touching the minor in an indecent manner.

She was also slapped with a second charge of maiming the minor contrary to section 234 of the Penal Code.

The court heard that the incidents happened at Mtaa wa Job estate in Ainabkoi Sub County in Uasin Gishu County.

According to the charge sheet, the incident happened on April 22, 2023.

Documents available in court marked as file number E069 of Sexual offences stated that she intentionally and unlawfully touched the victim’s private parts with an ulterior motive.

The minor’s mother is said to have been suspecting her house help due to injuries that the minor has been having on her private parts until she set a trap to arrest the accused.

Through the trap, the woman arrested her employer in the act.

After nabbing her in the act, she informed police at Kapsoya police station who came in and arrested the suspect.

The accused who appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Peter Areri denied the charges and pleaded for lenient bail and bond terms.

She claimed that the minor’s mother fixed her due to some personal differences which she said she will reveal to the court during trial.

She was released on a bond of Sh100, 000 without an option of cash bail.

The case will be mentioned on May 5 to fix a hearing date.

Cases of house helps molesting and abusing minors are steadily increasing.

In January 2023,a Nairobi-based house help was captured on CCTV sexually molesting her employer son in Ongata Rongai.

Susan Atieng Eseme, 25, admitted committing the indecent act with the employer’s minor at their residence in Ongata Rongai in Kajiado County.

The court heard that it was the minor who disclosed to his father what ‘Auntie’ usually does to him when left alone at home.

Psychologists are saying a majority of underage children who are subjected to sexual abuse are psychologically traumatized even in their old age.
