Salim training with Gor

Former Gor Mahia midfielder Rama Salim is back in the country after being suspended by his new club Al- Marhiya.

The striker trained with Gor at the City Stadium on Tuesday in what assistant coach Bobby Ogolla said “was an opportunity to keep fit.”

Great friend

“He was at City and trained with the squad. We were all happy to see him after a long time. He remains a great friend of the club, even after leaving, everybody was glad to see him and did everything to make his time comfortable,” Ogolla told Nairobi News.

Salim is serving a two-month suspension at Al-Marhiya for allegedly fighting with a teammate during training.

The player’s agent, Hassan Afif, said the former Congo United player fought with a teammate after a dangerous tackle.

Salim retaliated by punching his aggressor on the face, leading to the suspension.

The diminutive striker signed a one-year deal with the lower tier side in June, with the hope of moving to Division One club Al Gharafa.

Salim was one of the key players who helped Gor Mahia finish runners-up in the Kenyan Premier League last season. He formed a strong striking partnership with Ugandan Dan Sserunkuma.

Salim was involved in an acrimonious tangle with the league leaders Gor after it was reported he had sneaked out of the country to seek greener pastures in Qatar.

This led to the suspension of goalkeeping trainer, Iddi Salim, allegedly for secretly negotiating the player’s transfer.
