Selina actress Celestine Gachuhi teams up with Phil Kimemia to launch music

Celebrated actor, social media influencer and mentor Celestine Gachuhi has teamed up with songwriter Phil Kimemia to launch a theme song for their groundbreaking podcast initiative ‘Simama’.

Set to debut in March 2024, the initiative aims to be a powerful voice against GBV through inspirational and educational content.

The theme song, an integral part of the Simama #EndGBV campaign, carries a resounding message that encourages victims to stand up and speak out against all forms of violence.

Using her Instagram platform, Celestine emphasised that the issue of gender-based violence affects everyone.

“The last few weeks have been an emotional journey for our country. Sadly, gender-based violence is a serious issue that affects both men and women, from domestic abuse to femicide. That’s why @Phil_Kimemia and I are launching an initiative called #Simama. We want to use our voices and influence to fight against all forms of gender-based violence.

With a catchy and memorable melody, the song aims to become an anthem for organisations working to end GBV.

“We believe that music has the power to transcend boundaries and unite people in a common cause. The theme song is just the beginning of our efforts to raise awareness and inspire action against gender-based violence,” said Phil Kimemia, the songwriter behind the powerful anthem.

Entitled ‘Simama’, which translates to ‘Stand Up’ in Swahili, the podcast initiative will deliver powerful and empowering content through one-hour episodes released twice a month.

Moving away from traditional narratives that often focus solely on the victim’s perspective, “Simama” aims to provide a platform for sharing solutions and insights, ultimately focusing on empowerment.

Hosted by Celestine Gachuhi, the podcast will feature interview-style conversations with guests including triumphant survivors of GBV and professionals working in the advocacy space.

The aim is to amplify voices, share stories of resilience and promote actionable steps towards ending GBV.

The podcast will be available on YouTube and Spotify for podcasters, ensuring wide reach and impact.
