Sonko pays bill for granny detained in hospital for three months

Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko was on the rescue again on Saturday after clearing the bill for a 89-year-old grandmother detained by a Thika hospital for three months.

Ruth Njeri had been detained at St Mulumba’s Hospital in Makongeni over an unpaid bill of Sh220,000.

According to the Nairobi Senator, he came to learn of the granny’s fate after one Ruth Gathigah had commented on his earlier post on Facebook that showed how he had paid bills for detained patients at Kenyatta National Hospital on Madaraka day.

“I wish to thank one of my Facebook friends by name Ruth Gathigah. In her comments, she drew to my attention a case of a 89-Year old Grandmother Ruth Njeri who had been admitted at St. Mulumba’s Hospital in Makongeni Thika and had been discharged three months ago but unfortunately detained by the hospital’s administration over a Sh.220,000 hospital bill,” Mr Sonko wrote on Saturday.

Apart from paying the granny’s hospital bill, the Sonko Rescue Team also did for her a shopping of household goods.

She went home a happy grandmother. For the few saying I’m campaigning or I like showing off when I help people, (they) are wrong, this is where my blessings come from, to me its like a testimony,” he said

On Madaraka day the Senator spent the better part of day at Kenyatta National Hospital’s Burns Unit paying bills for patients who had been detained at the facility for months due to non-payment.
