The narrative that Raila is finished is laughable – Herman Manyora

Political analyst Herman Manyora has rubbished the narrative that Azimio la Umoja party leader Raila Odinga is finished politically.

Speaking in an interview with Citizen TV, Manyora said that the narrative is even more laughable when the people of Nyanza say they are tired of Raila and want to move on.

Terming it a dangerous narrative, Manyora noted that the same people who are peddling it are saying that Monday’s maandamano failed and that he should bring it on just as he announced to his followers that as from next week, protests would run Monday and Thursday.

Manyora also addressed the age disparity which people claim that Mr Odinga is old enough to retire and not be actively involved in politics. Mr Odinga, 78, has been asked to resign after losing the 2022 general elections.

“Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini led the Italian revolution. He was not a young boy. He was fairly advanced in age. The President of the most powerful country in the world, Joe Biden, is not a boy of 20 years old. A former Prime Minister in Malaysia was recalled when the then Prime Minister, whose house had stacks of currency, had messed up the country. The man called to stabilize the country was 93 years old,” he countered.

Justifying that Mr Odinga’s maandamano was not a failure, Manyora told those who doubted to ask business people in Nairobi who lost billions of money or economists who understand how the country works. Further, he corrected the government saying applying force to dissuade the rioters was not a wise move.

“The government should know that no one can ignore people when they come up in numbers as they did on Monday.”

He added, “Nobody should allow the country to get to a place where people defy law and order. Where people are going to face the police where they throw teargas and send it back.”
