‘This is not my first deliverance,’ Akorino bishop, Johanna defends viral video

Akorino bishop identified as Johanna, aka Danson Gichuhi, has found himself at the centre of a social media storm following the circulation of a viral video depicting him delivering what he refers to as ‘blessings’ to a female congregant.

In the video, Bishop Johana is seen engaging in what many have described as inappropriate behaviour, as he touches a woman congregant in question and applies ointment to various parts of her body, including her stomach and private areas, while she lies on her back.

Addressing the accusations of impropriety levelled against him, Bishop Johana defended his actions during an interview with Kururia TV.

He clarified that the incident captured in the video was not an isolated event but rather a form of deliverance, aimed at helping the woman overcome marital challenges.

According to Bishop Johanna, the congregant had sought his divine intervention due to marital strife.

“I do a lot of deliverance to my followers,” Bishop Johana said.

“You do not do deliverance for someone with stomach problems by applying oil on the head. You have to apply the anointing oil where the pain is.”

Despite facing criticism for his actions, Bishop Johana maintained that his intentions were pure and that he had no ulterior motives.

He emphasised his commitment to helping his followers and denied any inappropriate conduct, citing his marital status and dedication to his family and faith.

“I have a wife, I have children, and I have a lot of things. So those ones complaining about how I was performing my deliverance are those ones who are speaking out are my enemies,” he said.

The controversy surrounding Bishop Johana’s actions has sparked debate among Kenyans, with many questioning the boundaries between religious practices and ethical conduct.
