Thugs rob MP’s bodyguard of his gun, cash in Syokimau

A Member of Parliament’s bodyguard was attacked and robbed of his 15-bullet gun in Syokimau, Machakos County, on the night of Monday, April 22.

The constable told police that the MP was not present when he was attacked and robbed of the Jericho pistol.

The officer told police that he was attacked by three men on a motorbike armed with a pistol.

He added that the trio followed him for a short distance before pulling in front of him and one of them got off the bike, pointing a gun at him and demanding money and his mobile phone.

He said that while he was being assaulted, a bullet fell from the gang’s pistol and one of the gunmen picked it up.

“They robbed him of his mobile phone, a Tecno Spark 10C, and Sh15,600 at gunpoint. But they didn’t know he was armed,” reads part of the police report.

While robbing him, one of the thugs saw his pistol on his waist and snatched it.

The officer said in his report that he was afraid to reach for his gun because the thugs were pointing a gun at him.

The gang grabbed the gun and other valuables and sped off towards the Olonyiri area, he told police.

Police launched a search in the area and have since begun investigating and searching for the gang, and are also reviewing CCTV footage in the area.

In February, a gang attacked a female police officer in Kasarani, Nairobi, in unclear circumstances and robbed her of her firearm.

The officer, attached to Githurai police station, was robbed of her AK47 rifle, which was loaded with 30 bullets.

She reported that while on night patrol with her colleague, she was confronted by three men armed with a pistol who robbed her of the firearm before fleeing into the darkness.

The two officers were on patrol in the Kiwanjani area when the incident occurred.

The latest incident puts another deadly weapon in the hands of criminals, despite the ongoing all-out war against armed gangs across the country.

Several police firearms have been stolen in recent months, raising security concerns.
