Top media house in trouble for advertising job vacancies that require ‘payment’

An advertisement by a local media organization for the recruitment of salesmen for a 8 months contract has elicited mixed reactions online.

The advertisement that has been running on Citizen TV requires diploma and degree holders to submit an application to be sales representatives of the various radio stations in the Royal Media Services stable.

On Twitter, users have started a conversation around a pop up that comes up during the online application indicating, “You will pay KSh. 1,000 Only.”

Using the hashtag #RMSJobScam, users have accused the media organization of taking advantage of the jobless youths in the country.

A spot check on the online recruitment revealed that it is possible to key in all personal details and even upload a Curriculum Vitae before submission.

When the payment details page appears it has the last information as, “A message has been sent to your email containing your Order No. and announcement status for your future reference. For more information or if experiencing any issue with the booking please email products@royalmedia.co.ke.”

An email is however not received on the order number and details hence it could be that the media firm used a sales portal for a recruitment advert without customizing to edit out the payment details.
