Visa manenos: How to check if you are a successful Green Card applicant

The US Department of State, Bureau of Consular Affairs, on Saturday, May 4, asked Diversity Visa programme applicants to confirm their selection status.
Kenyans who have applied have been advised to enter their confirmation numbers at http://dvprogram.state.gov/ESC/.

The US Embassy in Kenya clarified that being selected does not guarantee successful applicants a visa or an interview.

“The 2025 Diversity Visa selections are available starting tonight. To find out if you have been selected, go to http://dvprogram.state.gov/ESC/ and enter your confirmation number.

This is the only way to find out if you have been selected,” the statement said.

Each year, the US government allocates 50,000 permanent resident cards to people from countries with historically low rates of immigration to the US.

This year’s (2023) green card lottery is called the DV2025 lottery. Applications for the DV2025 Lottery will be accepted from October 4, 2023 until November 7, 2023. Lottery winners will have the opportunity to enter the United States in 2025 with their new permanent resident card, commonly known as a Green Card.

“For fiscal year 2025, 50,000 permanent resident cards will be available to successful applicants. A permanent resident card is popularly known as a green card because of its green colour,” the statement added.

People born in countries that have sent more than 50,000 immigrants to the United States in the past five years were not eligible to participate in the diversity visa lottery.

The department also announced that the portal will remain accessible until September 30, 2024, allowing applicants to check their status within that timeframe.
