Wanyama denies holding talks with Wenger on Sh3b move to Arsenal


Kenya midfielder Victor Wanyama has rubbished reports in sections of the English media suggesting that he held talks with Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger regarding a potential move to the club.

According to the reports, the Southampton midfielder was widely reported to have welcomed a Sh 3 billion move to the Emirates Stadium at the end of this season’s, a development he has now distanced himself from for “professional reasons.”

“I have to make it clear that I have not said what has been brought up today am professional and will never say that.

“To cut the long story short, I have never spoken to Wenger,” the player Tweeted to his 170,000 followers on Thursday afternoon.

Wanyama’s statement was in response to a story published in the Sun newspaper with the following quotes.

“Wenger has been talking to me. He has let it be known he would like to sign me this summer. Arsenal are a great club and I’d love to play Champions League football as I loved being on that stage with Celtic.

“But we’ve had a fantastic season at Saints and I want to stay focused on helping the club qualify for Europe. Then we’ll see where I end up in the summer.” Wanyama is reported to have said.

The midfielder’s effort to clear the air is however unlikely to stop the speculation over his future.

Nairobi News understands a couple of top flight club including Tottenham Hotspur are interested in securing the player’s services before next season starts.
