Wanyama: Goal against Liverpool is my all time best

Victor Wanyama has described his goal for Tottenham Hotspur against Liverpool on Sunday in the English Premier League as probably the best of his career.

The English media have also, alongside a sizeable chunk of excited Kenyans on social media, weighed in with their views on this goal, with Sky Sports presenters describing it as one of the ‘goals of the season.’

This game at Anfield eventually ended 2-2, and Wanyama played his part by bringing Spurs into the game having trailed to an early Mohamed Salah goal for almost the entire game.

“I didn’t have time to think much before taking that shot,” the Harambee Stars captain told Sky Sports after the game.

“I saw the cross in and the keeper punched it in my direction. So I just hit it hard and thankfully it went in. I am happy to have helped my team but abit disappointed we didn’t get a win.”

Wanyama’s screamer was the second of what turned into a four-goal thriller, not mentioning a missed penalty from Harry Kane.

The defensive midfielder struck with only 10 minutes remaining on the clock, barely two minutes after coming on as a substitute.

Wanyama kick started the move towards his own goal by spraying a pass onto the left hand side of the pitch to a teammate who then delivered a cross into the D-area.

The resultant ball was parried back into play into the path of an advancing Wanyama, who reacted by connecting with a rasping shot from about 30-yards with the ball finding its way into the roof of the net leaving the goalkeeper with no chance.

Salah seemed to have won the match for Liverpool after he completed his brace in stoppage time only for Kane to rescue a point for Spurs from the penalty spot with the last kick of the match.
